Meet Our NYU Langone Residents for 2020 – 2021

We have officially launched our Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) program in collaboration with NYU Langone Dental Medicine Postdoctoral Residency Program. This residency program prepares dentists who have an interest in community dentistry with a broad range of didactic instruction and practical experience in a diverse setting – in our case, high-quality geriatric oral healthcare services.

Established in 1988, the AEGD Program turns accomplished dental-school graduates into advanced clinicians while concurrently providing oral healthcare to vulnerable populations. The program builds confidence and expertise in diagnosing, treating and managing dental patients in community health centers, private solo or group practices, dental public health programs, schools of dentistry, healthcare organizations and clinical operations. Residents contribute to a national public health initiative to improve access to quality oral health care services to this population.

We are fortunate to have recruited two top graduate dentists, who will be with us for the next 12 months until they complete their permanent licensure. We see this as a great boost for our sustainability efforts as it helps our mission in several ways including:

  • Each resident is a graduated dentist and, after an initial training period, will be allowed to work independently.
  • Our efforts will help educate/motivate the next generation of dentists to care about the population we serve.
  • Improve our external visibility as our providers will be in part faculty at NYU Langone Dental Medicine Program.
  • One of the residents speaks Mandarin and Spanish, which will enhance the care experience for our Asian and Hispanic patients.
